Whine Selection

Positive or Negative

By Bill Shade

Over the years I’ve made the decision to work in places that  were small enough that there was no manager between me and the owner.  I found that this reduced the stress level as I could go to the person who had the ability to yes and no, not “I’ll check with the owner and get back to you!” or “Corporate Policy is------.”  This way I always know where I stand and ownership always knows the way I feel.  Which brings me to what makes positive management, communication skills and psychological reciprocity!!  The same skills that make a good waiter, doctor, welder or dishwasher!!  When these two areas of my life are not running at 100% there is something wrong with my ego and I’m feeling less than or more than those around me.  During these times I’m sure my co-workers will tell you I’m not the most enjoyable person to be around!!  When the owner’s skills are lacking and his or her ego is lacking, for whatever reason, they are not the most enjoyable person to be around!  Treat me as an equal, tell me what is going on and what needs to be done, and I’ll work my ass off for you!!  Treat me as less than and play games and I will walk!!!  That’s why I chose this profession, the freedom to walk and be working again the same day!!  Life is too short to be endured!!  It’s meant to be enjoyed and if I’m not enjoying, I’m walking!

“The whole process of creating on purpose is about getting our thoughts OFF what we don’t want, ON what we do want, and keeping them there.”  Lynn Grabhorn

What You Focus On Expands

By Suzie Dawson

It is a universal law that what you focus on expands.  It is true in life and the same thing is true in your business.  Try engaging this principle with your staff.  Begin by focusing on what they are doing right, instead of what they are doing wrong.

In talking with people in the restaurant business, they all seem to have the same complaint;  “I do not get any encouragement from my management.  I only hear about it when I am making mistakes.”  This does nothing for the employee’s self-esteem, which in turn makes them less than willing to want to produce for their employer.

If you continue to focus only on the negative, you will create more negative situations.  Stop and think about it.  When you are in a good mood and feeling thankful don’t you naturally attract positive experiences?  And when you are filled with fear and worry, don’t you seem to attract experiences that validate those negative emotions?

Try this for one week.  Simply shift your attention to focusing on what your employees are doing right as opposed to what they are doing wrong.  See what happens. You will be amazed at the results! Focusing on the positive will naturally create a much more enjoyable work environment.  This creates happy employees, which in turn creates happy customers!

“Our outside world is a reflection of our inside.  If you want to change your business or your life, start by looking inward.”

Dessert

The dessert pick for the week is the book Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting by Lynn Grabhorn.  This is an incredible book on learning how to manifest exactly what you want in life.  In  it she discusses the Universal Law of Attraction, which says “That which is likened to itself is drawn”.  She points out that by shifting your attention to what you do want, you can begin attracting those things into your life.
