“Whine” Selection
Cost of Doing Business
By Bill Shade
I have
recently enjoyed a discussion on tipping out the front, side, back of
the house and owner (and whoever else they can think of!) to get a part
of our hard earned green!! One of my favorites is when the owner pulls
the busser back to the kitchen, just to help them out, and I do not see
him again for the rest of the night! However, he is tipped the full
percentage! As I walked on the beach this a.m, watching the shrimper
work his shrimp boat which drinks hundreds of dollars of fuel a day and
has nets that cost thousands (that tear), I realized that the cost of
doing business in my profession is not so bad! Could it be done better
and in a more fair way? HELL YES!! Would I like for the owner to pay his
help what they are worth. YOU BET!! Will it happen in my
lifetime-probably not! The thing is, I can't think of another way to
make a living with a lower start up cost, lower capital expenditure and
the ability to be so highly compensated for the time and energy spent!
I'm pretty sure if I ask that shrimper, whose motor just blew up, if he
wanted to trade jobs what his answer would be! What we do sure is not
perfect, some days I hate it!! It just happens to be the best deal
going!!!!!!

Appetizer
There are really only
two ways to approach life- as victim or as gallant fighter….And if you
don’t decide which way to play with life, it always plays with you.

Main Dish
Challenges or
Blessings?
By Suzie Dawson
Last week was quite
challenging. My husband and I received some unsettling news about an
exciting project that he had been working on. It appeared to have been
put on hold for now. Much time and energy had been put into this, along
with a lot of hope. We both experienced a big let down.
Luckily, I have
recently learned to fully experience my feelings and move through them.
(Okay, I am still working on this one!) This does not have to be a long
process. All that is required is to fully experience whatever feeling
has surfaced and move on. I have found that this prevents me from
feeling stuck.
After I was finished
feeling this disappointment, I was able to see it all from a very
different perspective. I realized that everything happens for a reason
and it all happens exactly as it should. There is a phrase that goes
“God’s delays are not always God’s denials.” How very true.
So after sulking for a
little while, my husband and I decided that this little setback cannot
keep us down. We came to the conclusion that if we want this thing to
happen, we will help to make it happen! We do not have to be victims of
circumstance. We are powerful human beings.
The lesson is this: If
you want something bad enough- Go For It!! Do not let minor setbacks
leave you feeling too discouraged to continue on. Life is full of
challenges. They build strength and character. Embrace them and look
for the blessings within them.
Since life is about
choices, I choose absolute faith, hope and trust!!

Dessert
The dessert pick for
the week is the book “Each Day A New Beginning” published by the
Hazelden Foundation. This is a daily meditation book that offers
amazing insights. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for
some inspiration. I reach for it whenever I am feeling challenged and
always seem to find just what I need to know. It was written with women
in mind, but I find that the issues it addresses are universal. It is a
wonderful tool for self-growth!
