"Whine" Selection
The View
By Bill Shade
Do you ever wonder if you work in more than
one restaurant at the same time? One day everyone that comes through
the door is smiling and friendly! The next day most of your tables
are quiet and somewhat whiney. One day everyone tips really well and
the next those little birds are flying through the restaurant
screaming their favorite song CHEAP, CHEAP! Some days the chef says
“YES!” to all your special request and others he screams “NO WAY!”
Then there are the days that the owner is simply unreasonable and
you are sure if you trace his lineage it would end up with Attila
the Hun!! The next day the same owner is with out a doubt one of the
kindest people for whom you could ever work!! And the same thing
happens at home! One day, all the people you have special
relationships with are just as kind, considerate and compassionate
as they can be!! The next week they all need to sign up for a
sensitivity training course!! I am describing my life, my work, my
play and my journey!! The one thing that I am really beginning to
understand is that the whole thing is based on my VIEW! The way that
I consciously or unconsciously chose to look at the world around me!
Things really do not change that much in my world. Day to day, the
routine and the players are fairly constant. Yet my journey varies
greatly each and everyday! I realize the one thing that is constant
in all of this is I! I realize I have the power of choice. I realize
that from my VIEW the glass is half empty or half full! Wonder what
would happen if I chose to look at all of the above from a positive
perspective everyday? Wonder what I would ATTRACT to my world on a
consistent and persistent basis! Wonder if I have the courage to
find out!!

Always leave enough time in your life to do
something that makes you happy, satisfied, even joyous. That has
more of an effect on economic well-being than any other single
factor.

Let Yourself Go!

A children’s catalogue came in the mail the
other day that prompts me to ask this question: How balanced is your
life? I would like to say that mine is in perfect balance, but that
would be a lie. It has recently come to my attention that I am out
of balance in a very vital area of life. That area is called Play.
Not only is it essential to our well-being, but necessary if we are
to live a joyful, abundant life.
Although I consider my work to be play (I am
very fortunate!), it is not the same as taking time out to do
nothing else but Play. This means to stop everything work related
and be a little kid again. Get out your Mr.Bubble and blow bubbles
of the balcony (one of my favorites), crank up the music really loud
and dance around the house (another favorite), or get some finger
paints and go to town! Really let yourself go!!
Many consider playing to be something
frivolous that is done after everything else is taken care of. I
disagree. If we wait until everything is complete, we will never get
around to it. I believe we must delegate time each day for this
important part of life. Schedule it in if you must, but do not leave
out this essential part of our existence.
How will you find the time? In her book “The
Artist’s Way,” Julia Cameron suggests not reading for a week. She
says that sooner or later if you are not reading, you will run out
of things to do and be forced to play. I believe she is right. If
finding time to play is a challenge for you, take her suggestion and
replace reading-time with play-time for a week. This may give your
mind a welcome break from the concentration required for reading.
Whatever it takes, allow yourself the time to
kick back and have some fun! Stop everything and live a little! Not
only does this feel good, but it is essential to living a healthy,
balanced life.On that note, I am going to take my own advice and do
nothing but play all week (on a much needed vacation!).

Dessert
The dessert pick for the week is the book ”The
Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. This is one of my all time
favorites!! Don’t be deceived by the title. It is for anyone on a
spiritual journey. Follow the steps in this book, and you will
experience a healing journey sure to lead you to greater self-growth
and understanding.
