More
Than Tips

Many
times I have written about the great advantages of being in the
profession of waiting tables. The freedom, the money, the
mobility and the fun one can derive from working in this fast
paced industry. I realized late last night I have failed to
mention one very special part of the business and life in
general; relationships. I’m talking about the relationships we
develop with the Regulars! That special group of people that
come to have dinner once or twice a week, the ones that we
really enjoy serving. One of my Regulars died last night. His
wife called to tell me that after a very quick battle with the
Big C Sam passed away in his sleep, quietly and not in pain.
I’ll miss Sam, his smile, and his good nature, him poking fun
at me when I’m slammed, him giving me half an American Express
card or a Staples card when I’m almost weeded. Sam was a
regular, a friend, and a teacher. Sam, being just a few years
older than myself, taught me not to take this gift of life for
granted!! Sam taught me there is more to waiting tables than
Tips! Sam taught me that special relationships are just that!!
Thanks Sam, I’ll miss you!!!

Money,
Money, Money

Last
week I met with a good friend and restaurant owner to discuss
the top 3 issues facing restaurateurs.
Without hesitation, he stated the issues are Money,
Money, and Money. How
to get more, keep more, and enjoy more.
The
first thing that popped into my head as a possible solution was
getting the focus off of the lack of money, and onto what you
want to create. As
I stated in my last column, what you focus on expands.
If you are focused on the lack, that is exactly what you
will get more of.
I
know this seems a difficult concept when the money issue is
constantly in your face. The
answer lies in focusing on the solution and not on the problem.
When you are focused on the solution, that is what you
will attract. When
focused on the problem, you will attract more of the problem.
One
way to do this is to begin asking, “How can I best serve?”
Instead of “How can I make more money.”
This simple question can dramatically affect your income,
because it immediately takes the focus of off the lack of money,
and on to how you can best serve the customer.
Complex
problems do not always require complex solutions.
Many times the answers can be found in the obvious.
Something you may already know or may have considered,
but have not implemented.
So
consider changing your thinking as the first step to creating
more money. Once
you have trained your mind to constantly shift to the solution
and not the problem, the “how to’s” are not far behind.
Without a shift in thinking, there is little hope of
changing your financial situation.
Of that, you can be sure.
This
week I challenge you to keep these ideas in mind, and begin to
notice how often you focus on the lack, or problem, instead of
the solution. Remember
that it is a constant training of the mind.
Every time you find your attention on the lack, shift
your attention to what you want to create.
Think constantly of the solution, instead of the problem.
This way you can begin attracting the solution, instead
of the problem.

Dessert
The
dessert pick for the week is the book
“The Instant Millionaire” by Mark Fisher.
I read this book a while ago, and just recently picked it
back up again. The
ideas in this book are profound.
It gives you specific advice on how to improve your
financial situation as well as how to improve your personal
well-being. Start increasing your profits today by using the
ideas in this book!
