|
| Much of the northern part
of the Monterey Bay are bluffs, nearly flat lying marine sedimentary rocks laid down over
millions of years in an ancient sea which once uplifted. Here we find Santa Cruz Mudstone,
Monterey Shale and Purisima Formation. At the south end of the bay Monterey granite is
common. It's the most southern point of the bay
where I took pictures to show how little change there is in this one singled out pocket
known as Monterey City beach, located between the commercial wharf and the
recreational area newly dedicated as Window to the Bay.
Other areas such as Marina State Beach, Salinas river
mouth, or further north Santa Cruz's East Cliff and West Cliff show a tremendous change
and a constant erosional process. |
