Welcome
to U.S. history!
 | 1791 The Bill of Rights (first ten amendments) was ratified by the
states. |
 | The Bill of Rights protects the freedom of assembly, speech, religion,
and the press; guarantees a speedy trial by an impartial jury; preserves the right of the
people to bear arms; and prohibits unreasonable searches. Other amendments deal with legal
procedures. Only the Tenth Amendment addresses the states relation to the federal
system. This crucial article designed to calm Antifederalists fears, specifies that
all powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to
the States, are reserved to the States respectively to the people. |
 | Looking at the time and people when this bill of rights was written, non
whites or the American natives had very little if any rights.
