 | 1815 January, Jackson beat the British at new Orleans. The battle of New
Orleans should have never happened. It took place after the diplomats in Europe had
concluded their peace negotiations. General Edward Pakenham, the commander of the British
forces, unaware of the negotiations ordered a frontal attack against General Andrew
Jacksons well-defended positions. In a matter of hours the entire Bristish force had
been destroyed. This victory instantly made Jackson a folk hero and provided the Americans
with a much needed idol, a symbol of pride. |
