nation’s sectional crisis. |
| Slavery was already an issue. The compromise of 1819
was no solution but just another attempt to keep a delicate balance
between free and slave states and their representatives in the Senate.
It was just as Jefferson had said, going to be a problem which nobody
wanted to deal with. |
