| 1854 Senator Stephen Douglas needed Kansas and Nebraska organized to
provide for deeds to allow the railroad to be built. Kansas should have been a free state.
Douglas said each state should have the right to make their own decision. To get the
South’s support Douglas repealed the Missouri compromise. |
