***Supreme Court Judge Dred Scott’s decision legalized slavery in
all territories.
It is said that James Buchanan
had his hand in this ruling. Let’s say for a moment that he had not been part of it,
his doing nothing about Judge Taney’s decision had been already a mayor cause for the
Civil War. What might have been a careful balancing act between slave and free states was
suddenly out of whack.
