| And Lincoln did say: "The declaration of independence protects the
blacks!" |
| Douglas countered: "The declaration of independence is not the law of the
land." |
| Going on about the subject Douglas asked Lincoln: "Are you for
intermarriage?" |
| And Lincoln said: "No, I’m not saying intermarriage." |
| Such and other comments about rights for Blacks certainly worried the
Southerners. |
| Understandable slave holders feared the moment when Abraham Lincoln would
become president. |
